What are Ceramides?

What are ceramides?

They are a class of fatty acids called lipids. They are naturally found in skin cells and make up about 50% of the epidermis (outer layer of skin).

What do they do for your skin?

They help create a barrier to stop things from getting in (skin barrier). It locks moisture into your skin, helping to prevent dryness and irritation. The stronger the barrier, the better protected the epidermis is from environmental damage.

These benefits also have anti-ageing effects. When the skin is dry, fine lines and wrinkles can become more obvious. By locking in moisture, their appearance is minimised.

Overtime, our skin loses their natural ceramides, so it is important to supplement them (especially if you suffer from eczema / psoriasis).
